Jackson Lewis Attorneys and Senator George McGovern to be Featured on Labor Day CBS Radio Show Discussing Issues at Stake With Employee Free Choice Act
Big business and lawyers from the union busting industry sure get a lot better media exposure than small biz and non-union Americans that support enforcing the 71-year old National Labor Relations Act. The WSJ loves to bash labor law enforcement as being pro-union....it isn't. It's pro-law enforcement and returns a competitive advantage to small businesses and the big corporations that DO abide by labor law. Our scofflaw competitors have illegally kept wages and benefits artificially low by consistently violating labor law.
Although the big unions support the EFCA, it isn't really to their advantage. Enforcement of the law takes away the need for a big union war chest to organize. Competition with small independent will force big unions to be more efficient and responsive, not just be able to fight a giant scofflaw employer. Doesn't the GOP like competition and the enforcement of law?
Only the biggest employers have any benefit from violating labor law. Mom and Pop shops don't have enough employees to fall under the National Labor Relations Act. Most medium sized employers don't have the $500K in interstate trade to fall under the act as well. Btw, the "friends" of small business have let that $500K standard remain stagnant since 1959 Inflation adjusted its $3.1M, which would protect all but the largest of businesses. The GOP and Chambers of Commerce look out for big biz only!
Philadelphia's CBS Radio "The Big Talker" 1210 am will air August 31 at 1:00 pm EDT; EFCA poised to muzzle management and reduce employee choice in unionizing drives
"Labor day is an especially fitting time to talk about the sacred democratic rights the workplace risks losing with the passage of the Employee Free Choice Act," says Martin F. Payson, a recognized workplace law expert and partner at the national employment law firm, Jackson Lewis LLP. "We hope to provide useful information to employees and employers on this dangerous piece of legislation that Barack Obama has already agreed to make law if elected."
